LEDUC ART CLUB’S

ASPIRING YOUNG ARTISTS AWARD WINNERS

The Aspiring Young Artist Competition was started in 2013 by Leduc Art Club members Ingrid Shields, Doreen Pyrch, and the late Gail Froland. They believed that it was important that our youth be encouraged to continue art after high school.

They set off to run the first Aspiring Young Artists Competition with the Leduc Art Club Show and Sale. The first two years of the event were held at the Leduc Civic Centre, using the atrium as a backdrop for the artwork.

In the third year, it was decided that the club would take the show to the people. The obvious choice was to hold the competition during the Black Gold Rodeo weekend at the Leduc Recreation Centre.

Year after year, the Leduc Art Club makes contact with Black Gold School District art teachers to engage every possible student. As the competition grew, new award categories were created, and more funding from community agencies helped distribute prizes to the winners. A variety of local professional artists were invited to jury the show and determine the winners.

The Club’s relationship with the City of Leduc, the Leduc Recreation Centre, Black Gold Rodeo and especially with the Black Gold Regional teachers make this event a success and it is with our sincerest gratitude we thank them all.
