The Zyp Art Gallery is an art space governed by the Calmar Art Society, registered under the Alberta Societies Act. The space is named after Hank and Tillie Zyp who have inspired us by their social activism, generosity of spirit, and dedication to the arts.

Calmar Art Society’s Mission is to:

  1. Connect, promote and support local and surrounding artists

  2. Highlight the importance of art in the history and well-being of our community

  3. Create dialogue and inspire understanding about social issues locally and around the world.

Nhung Tran-Davies, President

I founded and named the gallery after Hank and Tillie Zyp, who were one of the sponsors who helped bring myself and my family to Canada forty-five years ago as refugees from the Vietnam war. Through the years, I have been inspired by Hank & Tillie's artistic talents, humanitarian work, and advocacy for social justice. This gallery is my way of honouring their life and legacy.

Joanne Van't Hoff, Co-Chair

Born in Edmonton, living in Leduc County for almost 20 years. I have always been drawn to Art in many forms. I have a completion of Art 30 from Metro Community College. My artwork has been showcased in several group exhibits, from works on canvas to stand up comedy.

I continue to embark on a path of self-discovery and artistic growth. I am passionate and committed to the culture and expanding my own progression or helping others in their artistic path.

I am delighted to be part of Zyp Galleries Board, supporting and learning in the world of Art.

Patricia Ashley, Chair

I am a multimedia artist, originally from Montreal, Quebec, and now live in Calmar, Alberta, where I maintain a studio practice (Lyttlefish Studio). I am a mother of 4, have an education in Fine Arts, taught ESL both in China and Canada and love to travel.

I am honoured to be a member of the Board for the Zyp Gallery. My goal, in this role, is to increase awareness and appreciation of the Arts in my community, to promote up and coming artists, and to support the mission of our non-profit gallery.

As co-owners of the Block 39, home of the Zyp Gallery, Nhung and I hoped to create a unique space to bring artistic expression to the forefront in our Calmar community. Though not particularly artistic myself, I enjoy and appreciate how art broadens our experience of life, and look forward to each new exhibit and the opportunity to promote local and regional talent.
